Dr Giorgi Pkhakadze, Professor of Public Health at the David Tvildiani Medical University, was appointed last year by the UN Secretary-General to the Every Woman Every Child s Independent Accountability Panel (IAP).
Since 2015, the IAP is mandated by the UN Secretary-General to hold stakeholders accountable for honoring their commitments to the 2016-30 Global Strategy for Women s, Children s and Adolescent s Health. The IAP leads independent accountability mechanism established under the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. The IAP is composed of an expert group of internationally recognized experts in the field of health and human rights.
Last year Professor Pkhakadze co-authored the report entitled: "2016: old challenges, new hopes: accountability for the Global Strategy for Women s, Children s and Adolescent s Health" published by IAP in Geneva and a commentary "Accountability for women s, children s and adolescents health in the Sustainable Development Goal era" published by BMC Public Health (doi: 10.1186-s12889-016-3399-9).
This year, the report published by the WHO entitled: "2017: Transformative accountability for adolescents: accountability for the health and human rights of women, children and adolescents in the 2030 agenda" was delivered to the UN Secretary General during the 72nd UN General Assembly in New York. Professor Pkhakadze also co-authored the commentary of the report published in The Lancet "Where is the accountability to adolescents?" (Volume 390, No. 10101, p1474–1475, 23 September 2017).
