On Feb 11th, 2019 the Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN)of AIETI participated in Public Awareness Campaign to inform the public about Epilepsy and first aid during a seizure.
International Epilepsy Day-Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders. 1 %- at least 60 million people around the world in Georgia-40% are suffering from epilepsy.
Every year on the second Monday of February people in 120 country join together to celebrate and highlight the problems faced by people with epilepsy, their families and carers.
The students targeted four major places in the city including Tbilisi mall and busy metro stations to give out flyers and leaflets with information about Epilepsy. They talked to people regarding how to get help if someone they know has Epilepsy. They also addressed the stigma around Epilepsy and focused on how we, as public can help those with the disorder have better mental and Physical health. The supervisor Dr.Nana Tatishvili helped students in organizing events.
Epilepsy could develop in every age, sex and social status. 70-80% cases of epilepsy are cured due to right diagnosis and appropriate medication. Every seizure does not men epilepsy.
For successful medication is crucial right information of patients and their caregivers.
