On 21st of November David Tvildiani Medical University (DTMU) and Association of Immunization and Vaccinology (AIVA) hosted a public lecture: “Vaccines as a Public Health Tool: Clinical, Epidemiological and Social Issues in Georgia” given by professor Giorgi Pkhakadze.
Dr. Pkhakadze discussed the importance of vaccination; medical, epidemiological, social and economical aspects of immunization; important global and local challenges in the field, including vaccine hesitancy and denial and the role of medical society in addressing and overcoming this problem. During and after the interactive lecture the speaker answered specific questions from the audience.
Giorgi Pkhakadze, MD, PhD, MPH, is the professor and head of Public Health School at David Tvildiani Medical University. He is also a member of United Nations Secretary General’s Independent Accountability Panel (EWEC) and member of Technical Review Panel at The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM).
Notably, Dr Pkhakadze has recently been elected as a member of Independent Assessment Committee of the pneumococcal Advance Market Commitment at Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI).
