On April 23rd, the Surgical Interest Group of Aieti (SIGA) at David Tvildiani Medical University held its first workshop, which consisted of two components – theoretical and practical. The workshop lasted for 5 hours and had 55 participants. SIGA is a university organization supervised and managed by students. Its main role is to provide students with practical and theoretical knowledge about specific surgical procedures/techniques and help them acquire necessary information to continue their careers in this field. The workshop commenced with a speech by DTMU dean Ms. Nia Bregvadze. The first two lectures consisted of topics concerning “Essential steps to U.S. Medical Residency” and “Surgical Basics – Asepsis/Sterility”. Lectures were led by founder and president of SIGA, Aleksandre Asatiani. After lectures, students were divided into separate groups, underwent sequential practical training in surgical skills.
